Digital Photography & Imaging- week 8

 LECTURES

  • This week was an independent learning week with no scheduled classes, so I took the opportunity to continue working on my current assignment, which is Project 2 Exercise 2.

TUTORIALS AND PROGRESSION

  • Since I already have a clear direction, the next step is simply to bring my ideas and design into Photoshop for execution.

  • Before that, I gathered all the necessary elements, such as sea turtles, fish, and divers.

Figure 2: Progress 1
  • I adjusted the overall brightness and lighting of both the sea turtle and the diver. Since the deep sea is generally dark, I lowered their brightness to better match the underwater atmosphere.

Figure 3: Add noise to the turtle
  • Before I started working on the design, I went through all the tutorial videos provided in class to make sure I understood the techniques. Then, I used a newspaper texture as the background for both the human and the turtle to give it more meaning and context. I also added the title to complete the overall composition. To highlight the pollution theme, I applied a “noise” filter on the trash layer, which added texture and made it feel more realistic.

Figure 4:Apply gradient map
  • The last step was applying a gradient map, but it looked a bit off at first. So I lowered the opacity and changed the blending mode to Soft Light to make it blend in more naturally.

REFLECTION

  • To be honest, I felt really overwhelmed while working on this project. I was confused about whether we were supposed to design a poster or a screen display, and that made it quite hard for me to move forward. So I went back and re-read the instructions, and that’s when I realized we were actually creating a poster — it’s just that later we had to place it into the provided Magic Lock Screen template . Honestly, I really like the design I ended up with. It’s not perfect, but I put a lot of effort and thought into it, and I’m proud of how much I pushed myself through the process.
