LECTURE
- Double Exposure
- overlaying two different images in one frame
- used to create artistic or emotional effects
- Using the Tilt-Shift Effect
- Blur one of your photos instead of the entire image.
- To add this feature, go to Filter> Blur Gallery> Tilt-Shift
- Create fake reflection
- Experiment wit simple portraits and details textured
- Black and white results
- work with silhouette
- Pick two random photo
- Make simple objects look fascinating
- use shadow
- Task assigned: apply double exposure techniques and transform into art piece
I first used the Magic Wand Tool to quickly select the subject, then went into Select and Mask and used the Refine Edge Brush tool to fine-tune the selection, especially around the hair edges.
-
Next, I imported a solid color as the background, then used a curves adjustment to enhance the highlights and shadows.
I followed the instructions to create a forest effect similar to the YouTube demo, but I was a bit confused at this step. Fortunately, after consulting Mr. Asrizal, I understood how to proceed. First, I inserted a forest image and duplicated it. Then I positioned the forest accordingly and used a clipping mask to blend it with the subject. I also used a brush to create a gradual fade effect, which gave me more flexibility in revealing specific areas.
- I imported the bird and cloud elements, which was quite easy since I only needed to position the images and choose the appropriate blending mode. Following the instructions, I selected 'Darken' to help the layers blend more naturally with the background.
- For the final adjustment, i apply gradient map for my work.
- This assignment was relatively easy for me, although there were some parts I didn’t fully understand at first. Fortunately, I was able to resolve them after consulting Mr. Asrizal. I'm very satisfied with the final result, and I learned a lot from this project — especially the power of layer masks, which are key to achieving the double exposure effect.
- To improve the quality of my assignment, I searched Pinterest for various references and elements.

- The elements i used
- Just like before, I used the Magic Wand Tool to quickly select the subject, then went into Select and Mask and used the Refine Edge Brush Tool to fine-tune the selection, especially around the hair edges. After that, I erased the object the subject was holding.
- apply curves adjustment to enhance the highlight and shadow.
- Next, I imported the forest image and applied a clipping mask to blend it with my subject.
- Then I imported the cloud element, but at this stage, I wasn’t sure how to place it in an aesthetically pleasing way, so I roughly positioned it for the time being.
- Changing the background color
- For the butterflies, I also used the Magic Wand Tool to select all of them, then refined the details in Select and Mask using the brush tool. After that, I brought in the forest element again and applied a clipping mask. Once I placed the butterflies on both sides of the subject, I roughly adjusted the position of the clouds.
- For the final adjustment ,I apply gradient map and add noise filter to my work.
- To be honest, I felt a bit stressed while working on this assignment because I had many tasks to complete this week. Fortunately, the final result turned out well for me. Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of how layer masks work. Using my own photo especially helped me learn how to better apply my imagination. I’ve always liked greenery and nature, so I chose these elements to reflect that. Creating a piece based purely on my own imagination felt very meaningful — and honestly, quite fun!
