Task Link:
- What have I learnt in this module?
Throughout the course, I have learned a lot about the fundamental principles of design—how to apply these principles in your designs. As a design beginner, I am very interested in these conceptual principles, especially when exploring and observing artworks. After completing this module, I have become more sensitive to the overall composition of designs and artworks in everyday life. I have learned about balance, contrast, hierarchy, and harmony. By understanding these concepts, I have gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of everyday designs and the works of artists.
- What did I enjoy the most?
When I realized that I was beginning to understand the fundamental principles of good design, I felt very gratified. I had always believed that when it came to art, it depended on people's subjective opinions and feelings about it. However, after completing this module, I discovered that, just like scientific principles, art also has its own set of rules.
In this module, I truly enjoyed the moments of observing art, appreciating the composition of artworks, and then trying to bring my own ideas to life. As someone who is a complete beginner in drawing, this was really challenging for me. However, I genuinely enjoyed using Procreate to present my work. Even though I didn’t really know how to use it, I still felt happy when I saw the results turned out quite well.
Of course, I also experienced moments of frustration—was I really incapable of completing my assignments? But in the end, I am grateful for my persistence and continuous efforts. Even though this module was short, I have learned so much from it.
- What did I not enjoy the most?
I didn't particularly enjoy the tight schedule of completing all three tasks, especially within such a short semester. For me, it was really challenging because I tend to focus heavily on details and require multiple revisions before finalizing an artwork. The creative process takes a lot of time, and the limited timeframe for receiving feedback and making revisions felt too rushed.
However, I truly appreciate Mr. Shamsul for his patience and for providing comprehensive feedback on each of our works.
- What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I realized that I don’t have much drawing experience—throughout the process, I often had ideas in my mind but struggled to put them on paper. However, I still tried to teach myself the basics in a short time by looking up information online, watching class videos, and reviewing notes.
This gave me a lot of confidence. Even though I’m not as skilled as others, I can still create what I envision. I’m very interested in using art as a form of expression, and perhaps after this module, I can explore more related aspects of art.
- What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
I think what has changed is that I now have a deeper understanding and appreciation of art, rather than just relying on subjective opinions. Good art is based on principles such as composition, contrast, and color—it’s not just about expression alone.
Another change is my drawing skills, as I spent a lot of time observing and watching tutorials. However, what hasn’t changed is my lack of confidence. I still worry about whether I am expressing things incorrectly or if my drawings are not good enough. So, I hope to improve in this aspect.
- What are my aspirations?
My aspiration is to improve my appreciation of art and enhance my drawing skills through this module, gaining a deeper understanding of artistic composition and expression. Additionally, I hope that after going through this module, I can build more confidence—rather than worrying too much about whether my work is perfect, I want to learn to enjoy the creative process more.
