Task 2: Composition and Continuous

EXERCISE

Task 2: Composition Continuous

👀 Task Description.
After designing the Vormator character, it need to place into a Pokemon Card composition, incorporating foreground, midground, and background elements. In this task, we can come up with a new character.

Steps:
  • Apply color and shadow to your Vormator character to enhance its visual appeal.
  • Design a composition that effectively uses foreground, midground, and background to tell a soft narrative about character.
  • Create a Pokemon card layout featuring your character.
  • a brief description of your Pokemon, and explaning its abilities and characteristics.

💁💁Research:
For researching, I primarily want to conduct an in-depth study on the depiction and composition of water scenes. To better highlight my character and create a suitable atmosphere, I selected some relevant elements, such as underwater caves and reefs.

We were asked to use a book called 'Frame Ink' from Google Classroom and follow the templates in it for composition. Initially, I didn’t fully understand what 'Frame Ink' was, and I felt completely lost when drawing.

👉👉Process 1:
For the ideation of my character, the Nine-Tailed Cat, its story unfolds in a dark canyon deep beneath the ocean, where a mysterious being known as "Blue Tear" resides as the sea’s guardian. Each of its nine tails harbors a unique secret and power linked to the ocean. Blue Tear safeguards the ocean’s hidden treasures and mysteries, with legends claiming that its tears possess a purifying power, capable of removing pollution left by intruders and forming a protective layer to preserve marine life.

However, Blue Tear’s powers are not limitless; each time it uses its abilities, it must return to the canyon to rest and recover. Its presence symbolizes the ocean’s delicate balance, and the awakening of Blue Tear is said to bring renewed life and hope to the sea.

After completing several sketches, I presented them to Mr. Hafiz for feedback. He kindly pointed out that my compositions did not fully align with the requirements of 'Frame Ink' and that my sketches didn’t accurately convey the essence of my story, making it difficult to fully express its meaning.

Throughout the process, I continually studied and worked to understand the composition techniques provided in 'Frame Ink', creating new sketches based on the template. I chose a template that uses an establishing shot to present the foreground, midground, and background. After completing the sketch, I presented it to Mr. Hafiz, he confirmed that my composition met the requirements and that I could move on to render it in Adobe.

👉👉Process 2:

For the character, I initially enhanced its colors by adding shading and gradients for depth. Later, I made significant adjustments to align it with my sketch, transforming the originally seated nine-tailed cat into a wounded, sleeping form. I removed the scales from its body, as I felt they didn’t look appealing, changed the tail color to a lighter blue, and added scars and wounds to convey its injured state.

Before:

After:

Fig2.5 The modified nine-tailed cat.

In the Pokemon card, it lies behind a reef, sleeping to restore its lost powers.

First, I started illustrating the reef by using the shape tools to create the basic forms of the rocks with squares and ellipses. I then combined them using the Pathfinder tool and used the Pen tool to outline the uneven edges of the reef.

After illustrating all the rocks, I began drawing the nine-tailed cat. I personally found this to be quite a challenge because the cat's tail is wrapped around it in my sketch, which posed some difficulties. After several attempts, I ultimately decided to use the Pen tool for outlining and searched online for images of fox tails to help me better capture the shape of the tail. I also added wounds and other details according to my sketch.

Next, in the final step, I will illustrate the treasure, which consists of diamond-shaped gems, and color the rocks while adding bubbles to reflect its underwater setting. I found painting the gems relatively easy, but I struggled with how to integrate them into the reef, as they seemed too prominent against the background. Therefore, I decided to color the rocks first.

After experimenting with different colors, I decided to give the diamond gem a light blue gradient to help it blend better with the background without standing out too prominently.

💫Final Submission: Blue-Tear💧

In a dark canyon deep beneath the ocean, a mysterious creature known as the Nine-Tailed Cat is said to reside. It serves as the guardian of the sea and is called "Blue Tear." Each of its tails holds a secret and a unique power connected to the ocean. Blue Tear protects the hidden treasures and mysteries of the ocean depths, and legend has it that its tears have a purifying effect, removing pollution caused by intruders and even forming a protective layer to safeguard marine life.

However, Blue Tear’s power is not unlimited; each time it uses its abilities, it must return to the canyon to rest and regain its strength. Its presence symbolizes the balance of the ocean, and it is said that the awakening of Blue Tear will bring new life and hope to the sea.
